Section win on Wyatts pool, Cob House – 18lb 3oz

This was an Excel AC club match at Cob House Fisheries on one of the wettest winter days I have fished. Rain everyday since the turn of the year and heavy rain again all day.

Wyatts pool, peg 7 Cob House

I drew permanent peg 7 in the middle of Wyatts. I’ve not fished this pool much so I was glad to be in the middle of the pool. Wyatts contains some really large Carp at over 20lb plus so today with the recent rain and no F1’s to fish for it was going to be a sit and wait for a bite say under the brolly.

Looking at the colour of the water I opted to fish corn on the bomb rather than bread first, but no bites came the the first hour. I next tried l0ng and short pole lines with various baits, again with no luck during the second hour. Next I tried the margins but again no bites and 3 hours in with no one really catching I feared the worst and a blank.

So three hours in and empty keep nets! So I took of the bomb off and switched to a maggot feeder in the hope of catching anything but an hour later still nothing in the keep nets! So we were into the last hour now and the blank really was on the cards. I decided to return to the bomb and corn and after 15 minutes I finally had a pull around which resulted in a broken hook length. Despite the disappointment I felt the bomb and corn was the best way of actually catching something. Another 15 minutes followed and then at last I had a carp on, only for the hook to pull out at the net. So four hours in and still fishless (I wasn’t the only one)

So out with the bomb and corn again with 45 minutes left while I began to pack away my pole as I had now wrote off the match. Half way packing the pole away the rod pulled round and at last I caught a Carp around 6 lb. 2 more Carp followed during the last 30 minutes and these 3 carp weighed in at 18lb 3oz, which was enough to snatch the section win!!

So I really hard match, but I never gave up and those last gasp carp were very welcome!!
