Section win at Cob House on the Laurel pool – 39lb 7oz

This week I got a call to step into and Excel AC winter league match as a guest. I’d not been to Cob house since early last year so looked forward to it even though I’d not been there much in the past. I wanted to draw at the cafe end of the pool as the wind was pushing down that way but I drew up the top of end of the pool.

Laurel pool, Cob House

The plan of attack was to start short and then push out into the lake if needed, although the wind was a bit gusty. So I started at 2+2 on the pole with soft pellet and feeding micro’s. This only attracted small silvers and I tried maggots next but again all I could catch was more small silvers. So I fed both margins with dead red maggots and micro’s which produced nothing and after a couple of hours I was going no where. A change was needed, so dispite the gusty wind coming from my left I shipped out long to 13 metres with corn as hook bait and cad potting in a few gains of corn over the top and at last I caught a carp. I stayed on this line for pretty much the rest of the match catching the odd carp. I did come short a few times during the day but nothing was near in and the carp seemed to be in the middle of the pool. So today was just a case of feeding a few grains of corn over the top of my 13 metre line and sitting and waiting for a bite. My 8 carp went to 39lg 7oz which was enough to pick up a section win.
